The Creation of a Masterpiece: The Boodles and Mulliner Bespoke Bentley Continental GTC
April 24 2024,
When two venerable British luxury brands like Mulliner and Boodles come together, you know the result will be something extraordinary. The newly unveiled Boodles Commission Continental GTC is proof of that - a true masterpiece that seamlessly blends heritage craftsmanship with modern, refined design.
The genesis of this one-of-one collaboration began in May 2023, when the celebrated jewelers Boodles met with the designers at Mulliner, Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding division dating back to 1760. Their mission? To conceive a unique Bentley Continental GTC that redefines automotive luxury.
From the outset, the design philosophy centered on understated elegance through sophisticated craftsmanship. A timeless colour palette of Porpoise Grey, Linen and Boodles' signature Powder Pink anchors the aesthetic, accentuating the GTC's sleek, muscular lines. The choice of the Continental convertible allows this "jewel box" interior to be admired in natural sunlight.
The exterior styling makes subtle yet striking statements, from the Powder Pink pinstriping around the aerodynamic trim to the illuminated Boodles logo in the welcome lamps. But it's inside where this automotive masterwork truly shines.
Opening the door reveals an interior evocative of opening a Boodles jewellery box - modern yet luxuriously appointed. The Linen and Porpoise Grey hides are accented by Powder Pink stitching, including an intricate 278,566-stitch "Be Boodles" embroidery. The centerpiece is a one-off diamond-set "Be Boodles Bentley" pendant inlaid in the center console, handcrafted from 18ct white gold.
Advanced techniques were employed to incorporate precious and rare materials, like the laser-cut 200-million-year-old Autumn Stone veneers or the 24ct gold-plated air vent controls evoking Boodles' goldsmithing heritage. This level of bespoke craftsmanship is a trademark of both Mulliner and Boodles.
The Boodles Continental GTC isn't just a vehicle - it's a rolling homage to British luxury and an embodiment of these two storied brands' shared passion for uncompromising quality. Unveiled at Jack Barclay's in London on April 11th, it stands as a crowning achievement of automotive and jewelry design. A true gem on wheels.
