Bentley Launches New Continental Supersports and Supersports Convertible
February 22 2017, Bentley Montreal
Bentley has revealed its fastest and most powerful production Bentley to date – the new Continental Supersports. The Supersports takes the phenomenal performance, handling and speed of the first generation to new levels. A supercar by design with bold body styling features; including carbon-fibre accents to front and rear and a large carbon-fibre rear spoiler.
The interior delivers stunning race-inspired design with a uniquely bold chequered carbon-fibre to the fascia plates, and a completely new three-tone interior colour split. With torque-vectoring technology developed by Bentley Motorsport, this is also the most powerful Bentley ever, producing an astonishing 710 PS. And only a very limited number of these cars will be built.
Performance
A top speed of 336 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds make the new Continental Supersports the world’s fastest and most powerful luxury four-seat car. Similarly, its soft-top sibling, the Continental Supersports Convertible is the fastest four-seat convertible in the world, accelerating to 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds on its way to a 330 km/h top speed.
Its power is matched by its handling. Torque vectoring, combined with reduced unsprung mass increases responsiveness through corners for a truly performance-focused drive. This dynamic system brakes individual front and rear wheels during acceleration out of corners to increase performance, and brakes the inside rear wheel on turn-in to improve agility. It also has a bespoke, less intrusive stability control calibration for a more precise chassis response. All this combines with the rear-biased torque split of the permanent all-wheel drive system which sends 60% of the engine output to the rear wheels for control and agility.
Exterior and Interior Styling
Body styling features a bold new front and rear bumper design with carbon-fibre accents, while distinctive carbon-fibre bonnet vents, side skirts and rear spoiler enhance the supercar style even further, as well as adding to the car’s aerodynamic capabilities. Full exterior blackware on the radiator surround, light units, window surrounds, rear bumper and door handle inserts give the car a strikingly aggressive look, as do the gloss black exhaust tailpipe finishers and wing vents. The brooding image is completed by 21” Black and bright machined lightweight forged sports wheels and a gloss black front radiator matrix grille, the first available on this generation of W12-powered Continentals.
The new Continental Supersports Convertible offers the luxury and refinement of a coupé yet transforms into a head-turning open-tourer at the touch of a button. The multi-layer hood ensures high levels of refinement and acoustic insulation. Exhaustively tested in all conditions from -30°C to +50°C or more, it resists even monsoon-force rain and maintains comfortable, draft-free warmth even on the coldest days. Also featured is a neck warmer, making open air driving an appealing and comfortable prospect even on the cooler days of spring and autumn.
The interior of the Supersports has a powerful sporting edge. Chequered carbon-fibre fascia plates set the tone, with Supersports branding on the passenger side fascia plate as well as on the treadplates. This is the first time a three-tone interior has been an option on this generation Continental; you can choose from a wide variety of coloured hides and, to maximise the sporting look, select perforated black Alcantara. Supersports emblems are stitched onto the headrests, while a new diamond quilting design to the seat centres and side panels enhances the car’s distinctive look still further. The unique Supersports steering wheel and gear lever provide the perfect finishing touches.
