The Bentley Continental GT: Should You Get the V8 or W12?

The Continental GT series offers an exquisite coupe with world-class design, power, and technology. Here, we talk about how the V8- and W12-powered models are the same and different, helping you make the right choice.

Similarities and differences with each exterior

Exterior features on models are similar. They share full LED tail lamps and matrix headlamps with High Beam Assist, a bright chrome radiator matrix grille with chrome surround and centre bar, a black lower bumper grille, black 'B' badging on the radiator shell, and more. Both engines are also adapted to convertible models.

However, there are some differences. The W12 offers 17 exterior color choices, whereas the V8 offers seven. The W12 naturally receives larger wheels—21” five tri-spoke alloy wheels—versus 20" wheels with the V8. The W12 features twin oval stainless steel tailpipes, and the V8 has quad pipe exhaust finishers.

The most significant differences are in the powertrains

The most obvious difference between the Continental GT V8 and W12 models is power. The Continental GT V8 features a 4.0-litre eight-cylinder twin-turbocharged gas engine that produces 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. This provides a maximum speed of just over 318 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds.

The W12 includes a 6.0-litre twin turbocharged 12-cylinder engine that generates 626 horsepower & 664 lb-ft of torque. This raises the GT's maximum speed to 333 km/h while achieving a 0-100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds. This powertrain is the most capable.

Models with either engine include air suspension, including a three chamber air spring, with Continuous Damping Control and four height settings. However, the W12 adds the Bentley Dynamic Ride system. This electric, active roll control system allows the combination of exceptional ride comfort and exhilarating handling.

The V8 and W12 both share an eight-speed dual clutch transmission with Active All-Wheel Drive for maximum control in all driving conditions.

Interior features of all models are mostly the same, but the W12's interior offers a choice of mono-tone colour split or four duo-tone colours splits, among other characteristics.

Whether you opt of the powerful and efficient V8 or the record-breaking W12, the Continental GT will provide you with outstanding driving dynamics. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
